Neighbors Laughed at This Man’s Dam, but His House Is the Only One the Flood Didn’t Destroy

People laughed at Randy Wagner of Rosharon, Texas when he put up a 400-foot, 30″ tall Aqua Dam around his house just in time before record-breaking rains came through. Wagner randomly took a chance, spending $8,300 on what basically amounts to a big piece of plastic. His neighbors probably thought there was no way that tube was going to do much of anything accept put Wagner out thousands while he watched his house flood anyway, adding insult to injury.

Wagner had faith in it, though. While military were busy assisting his neighbors with a mandatory evacuation ahead of heavy rains, Wagner put up his dam and he and his family stayed put and waited.

Slowing down the sun

Kiwis are going solar in record numbers to escape rising power bills and get a degree of energy freedom, but the electricity industry is responding and using a host of tactics to try and discourage them. The industry’s latest tool is a new charge on solar, which the National Government’s Electricity Authority just gave the green light to.

How a group of neighbors created their own Internet service

When you live somewhere with slow and unreliable Internet access, it usually seems like there’s nothing to do but complain. And that's exactly what residents of Orcas Island, one of the San Juan Islands in Washington state, were doing in late 2013. Faced with CenturyLink service that was slow and outage-prone, residents gathered at a community potluck and lamented their current connectivity.

“Everyone was asking, 'what can we do?'” resident Chris Brems recalls. “Then [Chris] Sutton stands up and says, ‘Well, we can do it ourselves.’”

Making A Tree Spring Survival Trap

Facebook Monitors Your Private Messages and Photos For Criminal Activity, Reports them to Police

Facebook has a new little known software that monitors your profile chat and pictures for criminal activity. The software will proceed to alert an employee at the company who will then decide whether to call authorities or not.

The software will monitor individuals who have a ‘loose’ relationship on social media networks, according to an interview with Facebook Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan.

Reuters interview with the security officer explains, Facebook’s software focuses on conversations between members who have a loose relationship on the social network. For example, if two users aren’t friends, only recently became friends, have no mutual friends, interact with each other very little, have a significant age difference, and/or are located far from each other, the tool pays particular attention.

Why I Love Kefir and What Are Kefir Grains?

Kefir made from live kefir grains has 35 different strains of beneficial bacteria and yeasts. Kefir isn’t at all like yogurt in that kefir actually colonizes our digestive tracts with this beneficial bacteria and yeast. Yogurt and many other so called probiotic foods on the market today actually only provide prebiotics or simply – they provide food for the good bacteria that live in the intestinal tract. Laboratory grown yogurt has only 1 or maybe as high as 5 strains of beneficial bacteria and laboratory grown kefir for manufactured products has only 10 strains. Commercially made kefir sold in the stores is not fermented long enough. In addition the pasteurization process after fermentation kills the probiotic microbes. So my next statement only applies if you would like to make your own – Start SLOWLY. Just a spoonful a day for the first two weeks should be enough to slowly introduce your body to this magical substance.

The World’s First Solar Road Is Producing More Energy Than Expected

In its first six months of existence, the world’s first solar road is performing even better than developers thought.

The road, which opened in the Netherlands in November of last year, has produced more than 3,000 kilowatt-hours of energy — enough to power a single small household for one year, according to Al-Jazeera America.

“If we translate this to an annual yield, we expect more than the 70kwh per square meter per year,” Sten de Wit, a spokesman for the project — dubbed SolaRoad — told Al Jazeera America. “We predicted [this] as an upper limit in the laboratory stage. We can therefore conclude that it was a successful first half year.”

300+ Mind Expanding Documentaries

I watch a lot of documentaries. I think they are incredible tools for learning and increasing our awareness of important issues. The power of an interesting documentary is that it can open our minds to new possibilities and deepen our understanding of the world.

On this list of mind expanding documentaries you will find different viewpoints, controversial opinions and even contradictory ideas. Critical thinking is recommended. I’m not a big fan of conspiracy documentaries but I do like films that challenge consensus reality and provoke us to question the everyday ideas, opinions and practices we usually take for granted.

How to Make Liposomal Encapsulated Vitamin C

(Found on Facebook, haven't tried this myself but it looks and sounds interesting.)
The ingredients that I have used for this recipe are as follows: please feel fee to double or triple the quantities depending on the size of your Ultrasonic cleaner.

Soak 37g of Non GMO lecithin granules in 400mls of cold distilled water for 1-2 hours.

Dissolve 30g of pure Ascorbic Acid/Vitamin C in 200mls of cold distilled water.

Blend the Soaked lecithin and dissolved Ascorbic Acid in a high speed blender for 1 minute.

Pour this mixture into an ultrasonic cleaner and turn it on for 30 minutes in total, stirring continuously with a non reactive plastic spoon ( I use a disposable plastic straw)

When the time is up and the mixture is done, pour it in to a clean sealed glass container and store in the refrigerator.

We consume 30mls of this liquid every day, first thing in the morning.
